APA citation Activity

APA citation Activity APA citation Activity Item 4 Proper in-text citation is missing from the following paragraph.“An over reliance on technology, specifically smartphones, may be contributing to weakened writing skills in the United States. Since many professionals now depend on smartphones to quickly and inexpensively accomplish tasks, hastily written documents have become more common. However, this does not mean that such documents are acceptable to employers. Seventy-four percent of surveyed professionals have received an error-filled message that was sent on a smartphone.”
As per the requirement of APA formatting style the in-text citation is necessary for the above paragraph, to inform the readers about the source of details mentioned in the passage. The citation requires surname of the author, followed by date, both within brackets. The works-cited page shall have full details of this particular source, starting with the surname of author. In case, there is no author then the title of the source publication must be mentioned in brackets. If there is no date available on the publication, then “nd” must me mentioned, along with the author surname, with a space after the coma. An example of such citation is given here. Survey from this organization revealed that the proportion of senior volunteers, aged 65 and over, has risen to 64 percent, since 1974. (Americas Promise, 2011)”

“In order to achieve and maintain career success, potential employees must possess basic knowledge and applied skills for the workplace. According to The Conference Board (2010), half of surveyed employers say workforce readiness is also the responsibility of potential employees (para. 3). New entrants should not rely solely on what they have been taught in college, but rather try and learn on their own as well. In recent years, it has become apparent that most college graduates do not write at a proficient level. According to the Conference Board nine out of ten employers say writing is very important for four-year college graduates (Conference Board, 2010, para. 3).”
The following sentence, underlined, needs an in-text citation to inform the readers about the lead-in source for this data.
“New entrants should not rely solely on what they have been taught in college, but rather try and learn on their own as well. In recent years, it has become apparent that most college graduates do not write at a proficient level.”
The fault can be fixed by giving the name of the author or title of this publication along with the date, within bracket at the end of this sentence.( (In-Text Citations: The Basics)
